02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Library Builders is a charitable organisation set up to build, equip, and connect sustainable local community libraries across Nigeria. Our reason for coming into existence is to provide educational opportunities for the most deprived children in the rural areas of Nigeria who want to use education as a ladder to migrate out of poverty and mediocrity. By equipping libraries with physical books and internet connectivity, we want to inspire children from the poorest backgrounds in Nigeria to believe in themselves, cultivate a culture of continuous learning, and actualise their potential. In Nigeria, public libraries are mainly located in urban areas. As a result, their services are limited to people who live in urban areas. The rural dwellers do not benefit from public library services, thus creating an “educational desert”. Our organisation intends to fill this gap by providing library services to some of the rural people of Nigeria so that they are not left behind.

Constitutional objectives
4.1 To provide equal access to library services for the male and female residents (including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and children in vulnerable situations) of local communities in Africa by constructing library buildings and equipping these library buildings to promote literacy skills, numeracy skills, citizenship skills, and the capacity for life-long learning. 4.2 To promote a culture of reading, research, and innovation in local African communities by supplying physical books and digital equipment such as computers and internet services to existing public and private libraries.
