02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Since becoming a charity Prestwick Sailing Club has increased the participation in all on the water activity. Through fun sailing and competitive events we engage with our community. This year a change of Centre Principle and reduced availability of instructors restricted youth training sessions to only 3 weeks. However, as we also promote coming together as a community to use our internal spaces we explored the introduction of a Wild Sauna. With Sea Dipping and yoga on offer as well as additional sailing wellbeing taster days for the local authority. Creating a warm, welcoming space in our club, The Wee Wild Sauna and yoga group had 213 people attending of which 95% were women attending and 5% were men. Offering this activity to the community helps us reach more of the female population of Ayrshire especially those over 40, and scientific studies in Finland have reported improvements in cardiovascular health.
