02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Canmore Trust works with people impacted by suicide in both suicide prevention and in suicide postvention. In suicide prevention, The Canmore Trust works with people to find a safe space – a space that allows and encourages them to stay in the world, despite all the struggles and difficulties they may be facing right now. As part of this, we offer a 24/7 texting support service for anyone feeling that the world is not currently a safe place to be - text CANMORE to 85258. In suicide postvention, we work with individuals, communities, practices, workplaces, schools, colleges and universities touched by suicide to support those in need through the carnage that results from each and every suicide. We train those impacted by suicide to become “experienced friends” – people who have developed the skills to walk with others on the journey of suicide grief. Encouraging our clients to find purpose, in life after a deeply impacting suicide death is a major focus of our work.

Constitutional objectives
The charitable purposes for which the Trust is established as a legal entity are the advancement of health and the saving of lives. The Trust will fulfil its charitable purpose by working actively in both suicide prevention and in suicide postvention which may include without limitation: 1 Working with schools, colleges and universities to raise awareness of suicide and to prevent suicide. 2 Establishing facilities in which individuals challenged by suicide and families affected by suicide can be assisted to rebuild their lives. 3 Training individuals with 'lived experience' of suicide to provide support and assistance to others. 4 Facilitating a programme of research across UK universities investigating and identifying psychological and physiological risk factors in suicide. 5 Working across the suicide charities sector in Scotland to co-ordinate and facilitate a unified approach to funding and action against suicide.
