02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Newton Stewart Men's Shed provides a space and facilities for men in Newtown Stewart, Minnigaff and the surrounding area. It offers the opportunity for workshop and social activities, and has undertaken a number of projects for local community organisations. The majority of members are retired with a number suffering from health conditions. The Shed provides them with a safe and unpressured space to meet, develop friendships and skills. It has reduced social isolation for a number of them.

Constitutional objectives
4 The purpose of the organisation is to provide recreational facilities and advance the social needs, health and well being of men of all ages and backgrounds living in the Newton Stewart and Minnigaff districts By: a) Creating, developing and maintaining a facility, namely a Men's Shed. b) Offering opportunities for men in the Newton Stewart and Minnigaff area to meet and undertake creative, physical, purposeful and recreational activities of their choice. c) Reducing isolation of men in the area thus contributing to their physical and mental wellbeing. d) Developing the capacity of men in the Newton Stewart and Minnigaff areas to share their skills and knowledge with others in the community.
