What the charity exists to do

Dark Skies Gigha is a non-profit community group and registered charity (SC051611) based on the Isle of Gigha which aims to promote and facilitate an interest in observing the night sky as well as providing educational experiences through regular events covering all age groups. The group also encourages islanders and visitors to become aware of the detrimental effects of light pollution on wildlife, humans and the night sky.

Constitutional objectives

The purposes of Dark Skies Gigha shall be: 1.4.1 To encourage and facilitate an interest in observing the night sky for islanders and visitors to Gigha. 1.4.2 To provide educational experiences to all ages in matters relating to observing the night sky. 1.4.3 To undertake regular events covering all age groups related to observing the night sky. 1.4.4 To encourage islanders and visitors to become involved in environmental protection and improvement in relation to the effects of light pollution on our night skies. 1.4.5 To provide opportunities for islanders and visitors who may feel socially excluded or lack self-confidence to participate in night sky related activities. 1.4.6 To promote mental well-being through provision of night sky related activities.
