02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Attend meetings with local authorities and category 1 responders as required to discuss and action matters relating to water safety and public realm. Attend meetings with sports governing bodies in relation to water safety. Provide safety cover at water based events as required. Attend community events for public engagement on water safety. Provide advice and guidance on water safety matters to event organisers, sports governing bodies, category 1 responders, members of the public. Regular water safety meetings are held with multiple Local Authority regions within the Greater Glasgow area. We work in partnership with the Local Authorities, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire & Rescue and Water Safety Scotland to implement and improve water safety for the general public and the provision / improvement of Public Water Rescue Equipment. Our contribution to water safety is recognised and publicised by these organisations.

Constitutional objectives

The organisation's purposes are: 4.1 contribute to the preservation of life by delivering drowning prevention advice and related life saving education through participation in the Award schemes of the Royal Life Saving Society (hereinafter referred to as RLSS UK) as well as other qualifications relevant to the skills required and such other activities as appropriate. 4.2 to promote the saving of lives by providing safety cover at open water events 4.3 offer appropriate assistance to government, charities and category 1 responders (as defined under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004), via mechanisms such as the membership of the Community Asset Register.
