02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Cumbernauld and Carbrain Community Hub supports local people facing deprivation and poverty with dignity and warmth. We provide emergency referrals and practical help for food insecurity, fuel poverty, digital connection, clothing and housing items crises. Our free cosy living room offers tea, coffee with plenty of treats, free breakfast café in a space we rent, plus a free community freezer and a £3 community pantry for those who prefer a discreet alternative to food banks the community shop is for everyone taking away food bank stigma of course helping anyone who needs it. We arrange free furniture referrals for families usually for emergency housing however help ones in their existing homes if something breaks and they don't have the funds to replace. We put on free events that build neighbourly spirit. By recycling and reusing donated goods we save items from landfill while tackling social issues. Working with charities, agencies and volunteers to give a wrap around service.
