02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Founded in 2019, Mallaig, Ardnamurchan and District (MAaD) Pipe Band is a volunteer-led charity registered with OSCR, serving communities across a remote rural area of approximately 700 square kilometres between Mallaig and Loch Sunart. Our pipers and drummers, aged 11 to 70, are drawn from communities across the area. We rehearse weekly, providing an inclusive environment that builds confidence, teamwork, wellbeing and lasting friendships through traditional Scottish music. The band offers young people a positive, structured activity in an area where opportunities can be limited by geography, transport and rural disadvantage. Strong parental support is a key part of the band's success.

The band will be able to plan, programme and arrange activities on its own initiative, or with other local musical, arts and educational societies and organisations. d) The direct benefits which flow from objective C include a good standard of musicianship attained by members of the public and band.
