02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The main activities involve undertaking religious activities receiving donations, grants and raising funds in relation to the Charity purposes. In addition, the Charity receives cause-specific donations for our ‘Church Fund’, so that a church building is purchased, maintained and improved in order to become available as a place of worship for the Greek Orthodox community of Aberdeen and the surrounding area. The Charity also receives cause-specific donations for a ‘Philoptochos Fund’ aiming to support the poor and those in actual need of emergency financial help, at the Charity’s discretion. The Charity may also receive financial donations and support from The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Of Thyateira And Great Britain, at the Archdiocese's discretion, as well as by Eponymous and Anonymous Donors.

Constitutional objectives

The organisation is established for charitable purposes only, and in particular, the objects are: 4.1 to advance the Greek Orthodox religion, and in furtherance of this by. 4.2 making available a place of worship for the Greek Orthodox community of Aberdeen and the surrounding area. 4.3 promoting opportunities for the observance and practise of the Greek Orthodox religion. 4.4 working in partnership with other bodies to achieve its purposes.
