02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Community Roots, a community-led organisation based in West Kilbride, supports the KA23 area and surrounding district. We aim to advance education, community development, and well-being through accessible, inclusive activities. We address food insecurity via the Village Larder, offering subsidised essentials, redistribute food retail waste and fresh produce grown in the Community Roots Garden. Our volunteers use sustainable methods to grow food, provide gardening opportunities, and share skills. We also offer food preparation advice, sign-posting to relevant services and are building a Garden Haven building in our garden to offer a flexible space to expand on our reach. Through these initiatives, we improve health, build community resilience, and enhance quality of life for those we serve.
