02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The charity delivers on its charitable purpose through equine assisted learning and therapy supporting children and young people struggling with emotional wellbeing working alongside SAHSCP and the local primary school to reach families most in need. The charity supports clients on a weekly basis throughout the year ensuring long term support during school term and in the holidays where support can often be limited. We utlise the Equischolars programme which is structured around two distinct streams, a school referral stream and a parent /community lead referral stream for neurodivergent children who are struggling with the traditional school based curriculum. Herd Life is our flagship programme that is underpinned by the Equischolars curriculum. Delivered in small groups it uses structured horse facilitatated sessions to build emotional regulation, resilience, confidence and social skills.

Constitutional objectives
4 The organisation?s purposes are: 4.1 To facilitate and advance the development of health, social wellbeing and improve the quality of life by providing equine assisted therapy and learning to people in need due to: a) by ill health (both physical and mental) b) by disabilities c) by social exclusion 4.2 To facilitate and advance the development of health and social wellbeing in order to improve the quality of life of persons who are: (i) Serving or who have served in the Armed Forces and who have been injured or wounded and are suffering mental or physical illness or disability, including post-traumatic stress disorder 4.3 To provide opportunities to children and young people who are struggling with emotional wellbeing to help develop coping skills and confidence through equine assisted therapy. 4.4 The advancement of education and training in relation to animal welfare through visits, volunteering and work experience 4.5 The advancement of Scottish Culture and Hertitage by promoting the Clydesdale horse which is a native breed of Scotland. The Clydesdale is currently listed as vulnerable and is considered a rare breed.
