02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The purpose of the charity is to provide unpaid voluntary sea and inland waterway rescue services in East Sutherland and elsewhere in cooperation with other rescue services. We achieve this by undertaking regular training exercises on the water backed up by workshops for first aid and radio communication services. In November 2025 we were awarded the King's Award for Voluntary Service.

Constitutional objectives
4 The organisation's purposes is the saving of lives which will be achieved through:- (i) the formation, training and equipment of a specialised rescue group within the East Sutherland and Easter Ross areas with the ability to assist the Marine & Coastguard Agency, the police and other rescue organisations in any type of operation as and when required, (ii) the encouragement of public support and interest in the maintenance of local voluntary rescue facilities.
