Constitutional objectives

3. Objects The objects of the SCIO are a. To preserve the knowledge and skills of the Auxiliary & National Fire Services, UK Fire Brigades and Fire and Rescue Services, and in particular, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and its predecessors, and other services, units and brigades providing lifesaving, rescue or salvage services. b. To assist and support the membership to acquire and preserve, for the benefit of the public, vehicles, equipment, uniform, documents and works of art, telling the fire brigade story, to local, national and international audiences. c. To acquire or receive, artefacts, articles, works of art, books and items of historical or technical interest related to the evolution and development of firefighting, rescue and salvage services and of other forms of technology associated therewith, and any other items which may be suitable and acceptable for display to the public. d. Promoting or maintaining (whether in co-operation with others or not) public exhibitions and collections of artefacts, articles, works of art, and live demonstrations associated with the Civic and Private fire brigades or associated services, their manufacturers and suppliers of the United Kingdom and where appropriate the wider world. e. Actively promoting the management, restoration, renovation, maintenance or display of items belonging to the NESFHT and its members. f. Operating, in accordance with statutory, regulatory and ethical standards, preserved vehicles and equipment owned by the SCIO and by its members for the benefit of the public. g. Participating in and promoting or organising such meetings, festivals, open days, and other events as will foster interest in, public education and enjoyment of The NESFHT and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, or other organization with which it is affiliated, to further the purposes of the Charity and where possible those affiliated organisations. h. Promote skills and deliver training to share and develop the techniques of conservation, restoration and operation of the objects and equipment in the care of the NESFHT and its Members, and to encourage the engagement of young people in the development and operation of those objects ensuring the transfer of skills, knowledge and people stories into the future. Nothing in this constitution shall authorise an application of the property of the SCIO for the purposes which are not charitable in accordance with [section 7 of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005] and [section 2 of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008]
