02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Strange Field is an artist-led charity in Glasgow's East End. We provide space, facilities and support for contemporary art, creative learning and research, so that people in our local communities (G31 and G40) and beyond can take part in the arts and improve their wellbeing and opportunities. We run artist studios, an exhibition and events space and workshop rooms at French Street in Dalmarnock, plus a learning space on Moncur Street. We commission and show work by under-represented and early-career artists, run free and low-cost workshops for all ages, and offer affordable studios and space hire, with reduced or free rates for local residents. Through Strange Exchange, our library and learning space, we share knowledge about arts education freely. We are also the community engagement partner for The Pipe Factory while it is refurbished. In 2025 we delivered 98 events and exhibitions, reaching over 3,400 people and supporting 295 artists.

The SCIOs purposes are: 4.1 The advancement of the arts through the promotion of creative practices in Glasgow through programming, commissioning, and research. 4.2 The advancement of education through an educational programme targeted at local residents and Glasgow?s creative community. 4.3 The advancement of community development through: 4.3.1 the provision of affordable and/or subsidised space for community activities. 4.3.1 a programme of activities for local residents. primarily through the design and/or delivery of a range of initiatives, activities, and events, including, but not limited to creative performances, lectures, workshops, and exhibitions which further one or more of the above purposes.
