02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Our charity was established to convert a dark, threatening and unsafe disused tunnel on an active pathway into a fresh, safe and welcoming venue through the installation of a magnificent mural telling the rich heritage, social and cultural history of Ayrshire. In effect we are creating an art gallery 150 metres long! We have also created many short films, which are accessed by QR code, expanding on the stories and people depicted in the mural in greater detail.

Constitutional objectives
4 The organisation's purposes are: (a) the advancement of education, (b) the advancement of citizenship or community development, (c) the advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science, (d) the provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended, In furtherance of these purposes through the creation and ongoing maintenance of artworks on active-travel paths within South Ayrshire and in particular that tunnel known as The Alloway Railway Tunnel in order to preserve the heritage thereof and to enable the community of South Ayrshire and visitors to appreciate the artwork. The charity shall endeavour to achieve this through education whether in schools or colleges or holding art classes or interpretation classes and trails or contracting with others to do the same. Generally to promote the health and well-being of the people of South Ayrshire and visitors by encouraging the use of the Railway Tunnel and associated active-travel routes
