02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
A Listening Ear works to ensure that people across Dumfries and Galloway do not feel lonely or cut off from others. Our purpose is to relieve need among adults aged 18 and over who may be affected by age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantages. We provide befriending support to those experiencing loneliness or social isolation, offering connection, conversation and a trusted relationship. This is undertaken by hosting telephone befriending, in person group befriending (Friendly Cups), care home befriending.

Constitutional objectives
The organisation's purpose is the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. In furtherance of this purpose the organisation will: Provide a telephone check-in and chat service to people over 18 years of age who are lonely and socially isolated.
