02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Glenurquhart Men's Shed is primarily a place of friendship and companionship advancing the social needs, health and well-being of men in Glen Urquhart and surrounding area. It provides recreational facilities, workshops and tools to craft, make and repair things and opportunities to teach and learn skills. There is a strong membership ethic to be of benefit and service to the community. This provides a sense of purpose and usefulness that members appreciate, providing them with an opportunity to put something back into the community and society. It also reduces isolation thus contributing to mental well-being. The Shed undertakes creative. physical and purposeful recreational activities of the members own choice and promotes the sense of being part of a team or group. During the past year funds were raised by selling crafts and other items made by members, repairing things and undertook a variety of jobs for the community and community groups.

Constitutional objectives

4 The purpose of the organisation is to provide recreational facilities and advance the social needs, health and well being of men of all ages and backgrounds living in Strathglass, Tomich, Drumnadrochit, Glen Urquhart, Abriachan, Kiltarlity and district By: a) Creating, developing and maintaining a facility, namely a Men's Shed. b) Offering opportunities for men in the Strathglass, Tomich, Drumnadrochit, Glen Urquhart, Kiltarlity and Abriachan area to meet and undertake creative, physical, purposeful and recreational activities of their choice. c) Reducing isolation of men in the area thus contributing to their physical and mental wellbeing. d) Developing the capacity of men in the Strathglass, Tomich, Drumnadrochit, Glen Urquhart, Kiltarlity and Abriachan area to share their skills and knowledge with others in the community.
