02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Holding Space is a children's mental health and wellbeing charity established to support children, young people and families through early intervention and preventative support. We aim to help young people overcome barriers to their developmental potential, build emotional resilience, develop positive relationships and achieve greater acceptance of self. We do this through trauma-informed, relationship-based practice, recognising that relationships are our most fundamental intervention. We deliver group programmes, one-to-one support, creative and therapeutic activities, mentoring and whole-family support. Our work incorporates art, animal-assisted activities, movement and emotional regulation tools to help children understand and explore their emotions and how these influence their thoughts, behaviours and choices.
