02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES The Scottish Storytelling Forum has power to do anything which is calculated to further its purposes. It strives - to give every child in Scotland the experience of live storytelling - to recognise, encourage and enable storytellers in every community - to support the Scottish Storytelling Centre and the Scottish International Storytelling Festival as national and international resources, and sources of inspiration - to enable old traditions and values to flourish in new ways. The work of the Scottish Storytelling Forum and Network is at all times people centred. We work with professional and community storytellers, tradition bearers, those using stories in their own professional contexts, and young storytellers. Our work affirms the contributions of children and young people, of older community members and of people whose disabilities should not prevent their access to storytelling experiences.

Constitutional objectives
3 The organisation's purposes are: 3.1 To promote the study, practice and knowledge of oral storytelling in Scotland 3.2 To advance the practice of the arts in Scotland by a) the preservation and perpetuation of traditional storytelling. b) the development of storytelling as a contemporary artform. 3.3 To foster oral storytelling skills among all age groups, cultures and communities, irrespective of geography, economic status, sex, gender, ability, ethnicity or religion. 3.4 To support the sharing of oral stories in schools, colleges, prisons, community centres, museums, outdoor environments, places of worship, arts centres, libraries, hospitals, care centres and festivals, throughout Scotland 3.5 To increase international understanding of Scotland's living storytelling traditions and foster international exchange and dialogue.
