02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
GRI's mission is 'To save wildlife and wild spaces'. Core Philosophy: GRI believes that protecting nature requires supporting and empowering the frontline conservationists (Rangers) and the local communities living near protected areas. This support is channelled through two primary empowerment models. Ranger Empowerment Model: Designed to optimize a safe, efficient, and effective Ranger Force across all levels, this model consists of three key elements: • Welfare: Providing comprehensive support for the well-being of rangers. • Training: Equipping rangers with necessary skills. • Operational Support: Assisting rangers in their daily conservation duties. Community Empowerment Model: This model transforms local communities into active stakeholders and beneficiaries of the wild spaces they live contiguous to.

Constitutional objectives
5 The charitable purposes of the organisation are the advancement of education, the advancement of animal welfare and the protection and improvement of the environment, these purposes shall be advanced by a range of activities, including, but not exclusively to: : a) protect threatened or endangered wildlife and wild spaces. b) rescue, rehabilitate and safely release orphaned, or injured animals back into the wild. c) raise awareness of the value and importance of conserving wildlife and wild spaces. d) reduce human wildlife conflict. e) reduce any negative impacts on the natural environment which contribute to climate change. f) establish alternative livelihoods in local communities to help reduce poverty and mitigate illegal wildlife trade. g) conduct scientific research that will foster greater knowledge and understanding in relation to the charitable activities h) empower rangers as well as the local community to work together to conserve nature i) education of young people and the wider community on the importance of wildlife conservation and the protection of the environment.
