02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Deeside Cello Project is the name for the charity arising from the Aboyne Cello Festival, which has flourished as a summer school for two decades, and now is working to consolidate, formalise and expand its work of bringing all things cello to the North East of Scotland. We promote the arts, bring the benefits of creativity and social interaction to people of all ages but especially young people, with a focus on ensuring that underprivileged people are assertively included. Running concurrently with the summer school, and an integral part of the annual festival, is a series of professional public concerts across beautiful Deeside, bringing fantastic live music to communities and increasing tourism as well as inspiring the summer school participants.

Constitutional objectives
4 The organisation's purposes are: a) To enrich people's lives through cello music, whether they be players of any age or those who enjoy listening to music. b) to provide a stimulating and supportive environment for young cellists aiming at or entering the music profession to develop c) To offer an annual award to a gifted young cellist with an opportunity to perform a professional level concert. d) To encourage anyone who is learning cello. e) To provide a series of top-level concerts and attract audiences from the local area while stimulating extra tourism to the area.
