02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

VIE Velo is a tandem cycling club for blind and partially sighted people , who are unable to cycle solo , in Edinburgh and the Lothians. We meet on the first Saturday and third Sunday of each month throughout the year and Wednesday evenings in the summer months. We welcome sighted riders to pilot our tandems. We also take part in cycling events , and have social events.

  • the provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended

Constitutional objectives

4 The organisation's purposes are: 4.1 the relief of those in need by reason of ill-health, disability, or other disadvantage, in particular those who are blind, partially sighted or have a dual sensory loss (the 'Community'). 4.2 the advancement of public participation in sport, in particular in respect of the participation by individuals within the Community with sport, particularly but not exclusively tandem cycling, and active travel. 4.3 the provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for and the well being of the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended, particularly but not exclusively through tandem cycling and related or associated activities.
