02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Predominant activities are triage and emergency first aid care for Wild European Hedgehogs in need of help, then on to rehabilitation wherever possible, with the end endeavour being to return them back to the wild, ideally to the location they came from. Further to the immediate objective of rescue and rehabilitation, activities include the provision of education, hosting stalls and stands to promote awareness of the plight of Hedgehogs along with practical tips as to how members of the public might provide support for them to continue to live in the wild. The working model of the rescue relies upon Volunteers to enable the capacity to continue to increase, whilst still providing quality care to the patients. In order to increase availability of rescue places to Hedgehogs nationwide, our Charity Chair provides one to one mentorship and Training for new Hedgehog Rescues setting up as well as ongoing mentorship.
