02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The charity exists to promote equality, welfare, and cultural integration for individuals of Nsukka descent living in Glasgow and surrounding areas. During the financial period, the charity made significant progress in advancing its objectives of promoting welfare, community development, and cultural integration among individuals of Nsukka descent in Glasgow and surrounding areas. Community Support and Welfare: We provided direct support to members experiencing bereavement, ill health, or other life changes by visiting them and offering gifts and financial assistance as little as we could, demonstrating our commitment to the welfare and well-being of our community. Celebration and Cultural Integration: We organised an end-of-year party to bring members together, celebrate achievements, and strengthen cultural bonds, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion within the wider Scottish society. Engagement and Governance: Regular meetings were held to discuss community needs etc

Constitutional objectives

2.1 To promote equality and diversity by cultural integration and increased participation of individuals of Nsukka descent in Scottish society and. by facilitating discussions around socio-cultural issues that are peculiar to the Nsukka community in Glasgow. Through advocacy and campaigning, we shall promote activities that address racial discrimination in employment, education, health, housing, and public services. 2.2 To promote the advancement of citizenship and community development through the development and teaching of civic values. the encouragement of voluntary activity and increasing the involvement of individuals of Nsukka origin in community activity within the wider Scottish society. 2.3 To promote and foster the welfare and well-being of all individuals of Nsukka descent resident in Glasgow and the environs. The association shall in particular promote the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship, or another disadvantage 2.4 To promote the advancement of education by facilitating activities that will advance capacity development, skills empowerment, training, and research opportunities for its members and the wider community. 2.5 To promote the advancement of the arts, heritage, and culture by organising cultural dance lessons and competitions and. Igbo language classes 2.6 To advance in human rights, and conflict resolution by creating awareness of Scottish laws and culture particularly as they relate to child abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and good parenting among the people of Nsukka descent living in Glasgow and the environs
