02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

To offer help to families experiencing financial and other issues that result in aspects of poverty and or wellbeing. To date we have mainly focused on short term or emergency help, supporting families with packages containing food, household and personal items. We also work in partnership with other local groups to coordinate additional support and help.. Last year we supported over 120 local West Edinburgh families (191 Adults and 254 Children) We are now extending the support throughout the year although for much smaller numbers although we are certain this will increase. Although the offer of emergency help is valuable it is not helping the families we support improve their ongoing situation. We are now managing to move onto the second element of our purposes which is to give people we support the skills and knowledge to allow them to endeavour to improve their situation and hopefully move out of poverty.eg workshops in Benefit awareness and Budget Cookery..etc.
