02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Our charity is set up to support the restoration, preservation and development of Strathaven Castle so that it can be protected for the future and enjoyed by the public. We aim to do this by working to secure funding, supporting careful planning for the monument’s long-term care, and promoting the castle as a place of local heritage, nature and learning. We also want to improve public access, develop the area as an inclusive nature reserve with appropriate interpretation, and encourage use of the castle as a local attraction that benefits the community and supports the local economy. We will achieve this by applying for grants from public bodies, charitable trusts and heritage funding organisations, as well as organising fundraising activities and seeking donations from individuals, local businesses and supporters. We will work with relevant partners, including heritage, environmental and community organisations, to plan and deliver projects responsibly.
