02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Our charity was set up by a group of local people to take on ownership of a ten and a half acre native deciduous woodland next to our village, donated by a private landowner. The aim of our charity is to manage the wood for the benefit of local people and local wildlife. Our group of ten members meets regularly to discuss management of the wood and to arrange practical activities. One of our biggest tasks is maintaining the footpaths within the wood in a safe and accessible condition. We also carry out tree planting, try to eradicate invasive non-native species, install bat and bird nesting boxes and have erected new signs at entances to the wood to publicise the community status of the woodland. The wood is used by the local primary school and this is a use that we will continue to encourage and develop. Our members are all local and regularly visit the wood, meet local people and gain feedback on how local people feel about the wood.

4 The organisation?s purpose is the provision of recreational facilities or the organisation of recreational activities and in furtherance of this: a) to take on ownership of the Community Woodland on behalf of the Strathmiglo Village Community. b) to protect and enhance the woodland`s biodiversity. c) to maintain appropriate public access to the woodland. d) to develop the wood as a resource for use by a wide range of age groups and interests from the local community in a way that is consistent with aims b) and c).
