02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Portobello Youth Rugby Academy (PYRA) exists to promote and develop youth participation in rugby across Portobello and Eastern Edinburgh, for young people aged 11 to 18. We aim to build sportsmanship, teamwork and fair play, while supporting members' physical, mental and social development in a safe, inclusive environment. We deliver this through regular coached rugby sessions run by volunteer coaches, funded by subscriptions, sponsorship, grants and fundraising. This year we also introduced a free strength and conditioning programme open to local young people, held a P7 rugby introduction day for over 300 pupils, and ran the first Porty Beach Rugby Festival. We invested in pitch lighting to extend training into winter evenings, and benefit from the donated use of Portobello Rugby Club's facilities.

Constitutional objectives
The Trustees shall hold and apply the sum of �1 paid by us to them, and such other funds and assets as may from time to time be comprised in the Trust Property, in trust for the following purposes:- a. To promote and develop public participation in the sport of rugby among the youth in the Portobello and Eastern Edinburgh community. b. To foster a spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play among the members. c. To provide opportunities for the physical, mental, and social development of young players. d. To ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
