02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Financial Domestic Abuse Scotland (FDAS) is dedicated to raising awareness of financial and economic abuse, supporting survivors and campaigning for systemic change, particularly where abuse continues long after separation through financial, legal and judicial processes. We pursue these objectives through public campaigning, national media engagement, advocacy and collaboration with policymakers and financial institutions. Our work has featured on BBC Radio 4 and in Scotland on Sunday. We have submitted a petition to the Scottish Government seeking stronger protections for victims and engaged with MSPs, major UK banks and other decision-makers. We are developing a collaborative banking-funded initiative to improve education, awareness and access to justice. Despite receiving no external funding, our voluntary efforts continue to challenge institutional shortcomings, amplify survivors’ voices and advocate for lasting reform.

Constitutional objectives
3.1The charitable purposes of the SCIO ('the Charitable Purposes') are: - 3.1.1 The relief of those in need by reason of financial hardship or other disadvantage by: 3.1.1.1 providing safe confidential support for adults who have experienced domestic financial abuse as well as providing further access to other services. 3.1.1.2 raising awareness, support prevention and reduce stigma around issues affecting survivors of domestic financial abuse. 3.1.1.3 liaising with other services, including the police, financial institutions, and professionals and advocating for survivors and those affected by financial domestic abuse within legal and other protection services. 3.1.2 to advance education by raising awareness of the effects of financial domestic abuse with the public and professional settings.
