02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The charity is set up to rescue and rehabilitate sick and injured hedgehog, and have a positive impact on increasing hedgehog numbers in the wild. It achieves this in two main ways. Firstly through a team of trained volunteers who currently offer up to 40 spaces for hedgehogs and working in conjunction with a veterinary practice offer required treatment and care necessary to enable the hedgehogs to recover and return back to the wild. Secondly, we aim to have a positive impact on improving the publics knowledge and understanding , specifically about hedgehogs but also understanding the importance of biodiversity and how human activity can affect this. We achieve this through a range of activities including information on our Facebook page, offering talks to schools, after school groups, adult groups as well as attending a wide range of events - biodiversity days, local fetes and galas, and we host an open day at the rescue each year.
