02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The charity's purpose is to operate Craigielands Wood as a community asset, by & for the residents of Kirkpatrick Juxta parish, including Beattock village. The medium term objectives are: 1 To conduct nature walks, and educational training sessions in woodland skills & activities 2 To provide a network of facilities for woodland walkers - paths, benches, waymarks, picnic tables, information boards, and dog poo bins 3 To create access to natural and manmade features within the wood, such as viewpoints, grotto, waterfalls, millpool, & wartime bunker 4 To generate modest annual revenues from sale of timber products, to provide for woodland maintenance costs In this current start-up phase, while the woodland remains a State asset, owned and managed by FLS, the charity is focussed on: 1 engaging with community members, encouraging their enthusiasm & support for the community woodland project 2 negotiating with FLS & SLF towards woodland acquisition, through CATS transfer.

4 The Organisation has been formed to benefit the community of Beattock and District defined by the boundary of Kirkpatrick Juxta Community Council (KJCC) (the 'Community'), with the following purposes (the 'Purposes'): 4.1 The advancement of education, 4.2 The advancement of health, 4.3 The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science 4.4 The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended, 4.5 The advancement of environmental protection or improvement
