02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The charity was set up to provide advice and support for marginalised workers in Scotland. We provide advice via a helpline. We advocate for workers and seek to ensure policy development includes their voices. We contribute to research and delivery of policy to prevent labour exploitation.

Constitutional objectives

The company's objects are to: (1) provide relief to migrant workers that are in need due to disadvantage caused by, inter alia: (a) language and cultural barriers. (b) limited or lack of access to benefits or other financial support. including by: (c) providing a central and accessible support and referral centre through which migrant workers can obtain advice, or be referred to organisations that can provide advice, regarding their rights as workers or otherwise, or obtain support or other assistance. (d) providing multi-lingual assistance to migrant workers in order to help them understand and address financial, legal and other issues which cause disadvantage and access support services. (2) promote the relief of poverty amongst migrant workers, including by: (a) providing a central and accessible support and referral centre through which migrant workers can obtain advice, or be referred to organisations that can provide advice, regarding their rights as workers or otherwise, or obtain support or other assistance. (b) providing multi-lingual assistance to migrant workers in order to help them understand and address financial, legal and other issues which cause poverty and hardship and access support services. (3) promote the prevention of poverty amongst migrant workers, including by: (a) gathering data regarding services for migrant workers in Scotland in order to propose and promote improvements to such services. (b) contributing to research, policy-formulation and the sound administration of policies and legislation affecting migrant workers at a local, national and international level, and (c) offering skills and knowledge programmes which enhance the capacity of migrant workers.
