02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Demonburgh Junior Roller Derby SCIO is an Edinburgh based, volunteer run club offering young people (ages 7-17) the opportunity to learn and play roller derby, both recreationally and competitively. This inclusive, full-contact sport attracts neurodiverse youngsters, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those seeking a body-positive environment. The charity focuses on skill-building, confidence, and community, with an emphasis on sportsmanship and fun. The charity provides two classes every Friday during school terms. The ‘Rookies’ class runs from 6-7.30pm, teaching the fundamental skills and rules for playing roller derby. The ‘Team’ class runs from 7.30-9pm and focuses on preparing players to play competitive games. The charity hosts games and bootcamps to widen the opportunities for youngsters to learn and play roller derby. Additionally the charity facilitates and supports Demonburgh players to play games across the UK and abroad, supporting young people's growth.

Constitutional objectives

The organisation’s purpose is the advancement of public participation in the sport. In furtherance of this purpose, we will aim: To provide training and instruction in the sport of junior roller derby. To empower skaters to advance and reach their full potential in the sport. To promote the sport of junior roller derby in Edinburgh, UK and abroad. To support our skaters, coaches and volunteers involvement in junior roller derby in a way that is fair, impartial and inclusive. respecting the rights, dignity and worth of every person and treating everyone equally regardless of age, disability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/economic status.
