02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The primary aim of the charity is to promote, advance, and support charitable purposes as a grant-giving organisation, providing financial and other support to ESMS (SC053233). The Trust’s grants focus on, but are not limited to: • Bursaries and Prizes: Supporting pupils through financial assistance and awards. • Periodic Payments: Contributing to ESMS facilities such as boarding houses, playing fields, equipment, and school clubs. • Maintenance of War Memorials: Preserving ESMS war memorials as a mark of respect and remembrance. • Recognition of Former Pupils: Honouring the legacy of ESMS alumni of notable repute or standing, as judged solely by the Trust Governors. The Trust provides annual bursaries and also grants for extra-curricular and school-related projects that would not otherwise receive funding, funded through income and capital growth generated by its investments. These grants benefit a wide range of pupils and help enrich the overall school experience.

Constitutional objectives
6 The SCIO will promote, advance and further charitable purposes by operating as a grant giving charity which will support financially and otherwise ESMS. Such grant giving shall, but not exclusively so, support:- 6.1 the provision of bursaries, prizes and periodic payments in support of ESMS, including the boarding houses, playing fields, equipment and clubs of ESMS. 6.2 the maintenance of ESMS war memorials. 6.3 the perpetuation of the memory of former ESMS pupils of notable repute or standing, as to which the Governors shall be the sole judges. 6.4 In particular for the purposes of the 2005 Act the charitable purpose identified as applicable from section 7 of the 2005 Act is:- 6.4.1 the advancement of education.
