02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The principal activity of the charitable company in the year under review has been the on-going process to facilitate the purchase of the track and buildings from Angus Council. This will allow the continued preservation and operation of the portion of the railway between Brechin and Bridge of Dun. The charity has also focused its activity on the procurement of items relating to the railway at Brechin, Bridge of Dun and the former Caledonian Railway in the local Angus area. This has enabled the advancement of historical and general education to school groups and visitors.

Constitutional objectives

2 The company's objects are: (a) The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science through the operation and / or support for operation of the heritage branch line at Caledonian Railway Brechin for the public benefit. (b) the advancement of citizenship or community development, through engagement and support for local groups, with the general public and encouragement of all volunteering activity to support the operation of aforementioned railway. (c) The advancement of education, available to the public, through the development of managed training and awareness delivered through online training, 'hands-on' training and mentoring from experienced and competent professionals. This will include the development and storage for access of reference material from historic technical documents and observations for maintenance and operation of aforementioned railway.
