02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Sandness Community Development works on behalf of the local community to improve services and the lived environment, to improve the quality of life for residents of Sandness, and facilities for visitors to the area. We regularly consult with residents to identify needs and a focus for action. We seek funding to run activities, provide services and tackle issues. In the last year we have provided a bus service for the community, especially young people for afterschool activities. hosted workshops for residents to learn about endangered species and improving natural habitats. coordinated fresh fish deliveries for residents. provided regular social events, and are project managing the process of community ownership of the local pier.

The company has been formed to benefit principally the community of Sandness which comprises the ZE2 9PL postcode in the West Mainland of Shetland ('the Community') with the following objects: (a) The advancement of community development (including the advancement of rural regeneration) principally within the Community of Sandness, Shetland, alone, or in conjunction with others, to nurture a safe, strong, sustainable community for the benefit of all (b) the advancement of environmental protection or improvement of the Community of Sandness
