02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
ACT Counselling and Training Services Ltd continue to help people in our community by providing full vocational training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for those wishing to enter the profession of Counselling and Psychotherapy. We also offer low cost/free Counselling and Therapy to the local community. Lastly we engage with the third and public sector organisations and offer free training spaces to help upskill their workforce.

Constitutional objectives
The Objects of the Charity are: (1) To advance the education of the public in the subject of Counselling and Psychotherapy by:- a. Provision of courses and training for students and qualified therapists. b. Monitoring accreditation criteria with the professional bodies in Scotland and the UK (currently BABCP, BACP and COSCA) and generally working with the professional bodies to keep up to date with the information and requirements relevant to practice of counselling, Psychotherapy and related services in the UK. (2) To relieve the needs of individuals over 16 years of age requiring behavioural therapy by provision of psychotherapy programs. (3) To provide guidance in the provision of Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Supervision to all students and organisations. and (4) to promote such similar charitable purposes, objects or institutions in such proportions and manner as the Trustees shall think fit. The expressions 'charitable purpose' or 'charitable object' shall mean a charitable purpose under section 7 of the Charities Act which is also regarded as a charitable purpose in relation to the application of the Taxes Acts and a 'charitable institution' shall mean a charity in terms of the Charities Act which is also regarded as a charity in relation to the application of the Taxes Acts, or a charity under the law of any other jurisdiction which is also regarded as a charity in relation to the application of the Taxes Acts, provided that nothing in these Articles shall authorise an application of the property of the Charity other than in furtherance of a charitable purpose.
