02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Fèis Latharna, a volunteer-led community organisation, celebrated 30 years of providing tuition in traditional music and Gaelic Arts to children and young people in the communities of Oban and Lorn, and we continue to offer a packed programme of activity and classes to the community. This programme includes Saturday classes throughout the term time (8-18 yrs) with five tutors teaching fiddle, accordion, chanter/bagpipes, clàrsach, whistle and guitar in very small groups from complete beginner to advanced level. Easter Fèis, an annual 4-day event in the Easter break at Oban Primary Campus for over 160 children (11 - 18 yrs) providing a fun and relaxed space in which to try out instruments and Gaelic arts activities, regardless of participants’ previous knowledge of music and Gaelic language and Argyll Cèilidh Trail (ACT), our annual initiative for advanced players (16-25 years), which is an invaluable opportunity for older musicians to perform throughout west Scotland.
