02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Our charity supports the Sri Lankan Muslim community in Scotland by organising educational, cultural, religious and community activities. We promote community cohesion, support families, preserve our cultural heritage and deliver charitable projects for the benefit of our members and the wider community.

Constitutional objectives

2. OBJECTIVES a) To advance citizenship through the development of training and education, art and culture, active citizenship, and the promotion and protection of citizen rights. This will build positive relationships, promote mutual understanding, and respect, and enhance community cohesion by offering relevant activities and training opportunities, stimulating democratic participation in community work and society, and increasing the involvement of individuals and families in community activities. b) To advance the arts, heritage, and culture by promoting Sri Lankan culture as part of the multicultural landscape of Scotland. This includes facilitating inclusion in multicultural Scotland and empowering these communities through art and culture programs to tackle exclusion, promote integration, and foster active citizenship. c) To promote racial harmony among diverse communities by celebrating community cohesion, democratic participation, and cultural heritage. This involves advocating for equal opportunities in all aspects of Scottish life, advancing active citizenship, and providing platforms for community cohesion.
