02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Our charity supports deaf children and their families through inclusive, community-focused initiatives. We run a monthly club session that provides a welcoming space for children to connect, build confidence, and have fun, while families share experiences and support one another. In addition, we organise accessible events designed to remove barriers and ensure full participation for deaf children. We also develop and provide British Sign Language (BSL) resources for schools, helping to promote awareness, inclusion, and effective communication in educational settings. To further empower families, we offer funding to support them in learning BSL, strengthening communication at home and enhancing children’s wellbeing. Our work is strengthened through collaboration with key partners, including NDCS, NHS Lothian’s paediatric audiology steering group, and local education teams across Lothian councils.
