02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Code the City exists to put technology, data, and digital skills into the hands of the community to improve quality of life across Aberdeen and beyond. We're a Scottish registered charity (SC047835) that believes the right people, with the right skills and tools, can tackle real civic challenges. We do this through a programme of regular public events including hack weekends, the Aberdeen Python User Group, Aberdeen Data Meetups, Wiki Meetups, and the annual Scottish Open Data Unconference. We also run educational programmes such as Young City Coders for school age children and digital skills workshops for underrepresented groups. Our work brings together coders, designers, data scientists, historians, service users, and the general public to collaboratively build prototype solutions to local problems using open data.
