02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Nith Life is a community-led charity working to protect, restore and celebrate the River Nith and its catchment for the benefit of people, nature and future generations. We bring together local communities, land managers, artists, scientists and partner organisations to improve understanding of the river’s environmental health, cultural heritage and role in climate resilience. Our work includes citizen science and wildlife monitoring, community consultations, public talks and events, and creative and cultural activities that help people connect with the river. We also support collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the Nith catchment to ensure the river is recognised as a vital asset in local sustainability planning. By combining environmental action, education, culture and community engagement, Nith Life aims to strengthen care for the River Nith as a living system that supports biodiversity, wellbeing and a sustainable local future.
