What the charity exists to do

The SCIO encourages, facilitates and conducts research in all aspects of business history. The SCIO funds the Ballast Trust Archivist and Business Archives Surveying Officer.

Constitutional objectives

The purposes of the SCIO are:- (i) the advancement of education, heritage, culture and science through the provision of (amongst other things) (a) financial support for The Ballast Trust, or by whatever name that the organisation may be referred to in the future. (b) financial support to encourage, facilitate and conduct research in all aspects of business history. (c) support for the preservation and efficient organisation of business records. (d) services to assist with the location and surveying of records of historical interest and the preservation and rescue of records at risk. (e) support of bodies active in the preservation and publication of business records such as the Business Archives Council of Scotland. and (ii) to promote similar charitable purposes, objects or institutions in such proportions and manner as the Trustees think fit.
