02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
West Calder High School Cares SCIO is an independent charity established to improve the lives and opportunities of children, young people and families in West Calder High School's catchment area. Our aims are to prevent and relieve poverty, advance education, promote wellbeing and inclusion, and help young people achieve their potential. We provide practical support including food, clothing, school essentials and access to activities that families experiencing financial hardship might otherwise be unable to afford. We also fund vocational training, employability programmes and opportunities for young people facing additional support needs or barriers to education. Working closely with the school, families and community partners, we identify those most in need and provide targeted support that complements statutory services. Our activities help reduce inequality, strengthen community connections and improve young people's confidence, skills and future opportunities.
