Constitutional objectives

The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science: The Organisation will promote and support research into the causes, treatment, care and prevention of Parkinson's, and facilitate the sharing of the results of such research. The Organisation will offer classes, based on over 47 peer-reviewed research papers, that offer the Parkinson's community coping mechanisms - physical, mental and emotional - that can be used on a daily basis. Institutions of higher education will be encouraged to open their doors to the community whilst providing opportunities for faculty and students in dance, music, health science and medical/therapeutic affiliated professions, and psychology, to immerse themselves in the areas of learning and research. The Organisation is committed to forging partnerships with those institutions furthering research into Parkinson's. The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended: Primarily intended for persons who have need of them by reason of their age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. Facilities require being user-friendly, offering ease of access and suitable amenities. Classes are currently offered using existing locations that have the correct facilities available. With the expansion of the programme to other areas in Scotland in the future, it may be necessary to make alterations to premises where facilities need to be made suitable. The Relief of those in need: Parkinson’s is a chronic, progressive, terminal condition putting those living with Parkinson’s at a permanent physical and mental disadvantage. Using the Dance for PD® Program as the basis for all activities, The Organisation will offer dance, singing and movement classes that both benefit and enrich the lives of people living with Parkinson's. The Dance for PD® model has been shown to relieve debilitating symptoms, aid short-term mobility, significantly improve stability, contribute to social inclusion, decrease rigidity and improve facial expression, and improve overall quality of life and self-efficacy.
