02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Our main activity is running a community food larder. Membership is available to anyone living in the AB43 postcode area, but we are limited to 80 members at a time. The members pay an annual membership fee of £2, which then allows them to do a weekly shop for £2 per week. If the members take everything that is available to them, then they are getting the equivalent of approximately £14 in goods for their £2. Each member can take 5 items, 2 orange items which is usually fresh meat, cheese or tinned meats. and 3 green items which are mainly cupboard staples such as tinned soup, fruit and vegetables or tea, coffee, milk and sugar. We also provide fresh fruit and vegetables as well as items we receive for free through our membership of Fareshare. We are also equipped to provide an emergency centre in the event of any disaster in Fraserburgh, as well as provide assistance to Aberdeenshire Council in the event of bad weather to provide a snow clearing service.
