What the charity exists to do
To advance education and promote the voluntary sector by supporting social enterprises and social businesses. It also would act, should the need arise, as a vehicle to receive Scottish funding opportunities.

Constitutional objectives
3. The purposes of the SCIO are:- (i) The advancement of education through the training and research of skills, methods and techniques required for the establishment and management of charitable, philanthropic and benevolent institutions and projects. and (ii) the promotion of the voluntary sector by supporting charitable activity being carried out by social enterprises and social businesses, which are non profit distributing, throughout the world. In this clause the phrase “social enterprise and social business” shall mean a body which a person might reasonably consider acts for the benefit of the community. and (iii) to promote similar charitable purposes, objects or institutions in such proportions and manner as the Trustees think fit.
