02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
ACT is a grassroots organisation in the village of Auchencairn, South Scotland, working to adapt and build resilience in our community to the climate crisis. We seek to do this through educational events, sharing skills, and running local projects. Our regular projects include: community transport to promote sustainable transport through e-bike hire, bike repairs, guided bike rides and minibus transport. food growing through led local allotment sessions, skill share, and seed swaps. biodiversity group to enhance local biodiversity and educate about it through surveying, land improvements, tree planting, running a local tree nursery, and working with the local primary school. and a weekly outdoor play club. We work in partnership with other organisations including the Scottish Government's 'Volunteer Support Fund' and D&G Climate Hub's 'Climate Ready Communities'. Many of our projects are run by self-employed project workers, with support from local volunteers.

Constitutional objectives
The organisation’s purpose is to advance environmental protection or improvement. Its key aims are to: a) Enable a fair and just transition to a resilient and sustainable future. b) Respond to the climate emergency. c) Contribute to the halting and reversing of bio-diversity loss and environmental damage. d) Provide activities that support Auchencairn and the immediate surrounding communities to be sustainable and resilient. e) Increase awareness and education around environmental, sustainability and resilience issues. It will achieve these by providing activities that support Auchencairn and the immediate surrounding communities.
