02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Arbirlot Old Kirk Trust (AOKT) was set up in order to acquire the former Arbirlot Parish Church building and transform it into a multi-purpose space for the benefit of the Arbirlot community consisting of the village of Arbirlot and the surrounding rural area. AOKT’s stated purposes are the advancement of citizenship or community development, the advancement of the arts, heritage and culture, and the provision and organisation of recreational facilities. The building, which was not served by water, was purchased in August 2025. Social and musical events were held for the community from that date in the building in its layout as a parish church. These were modest in form, due to the lack of facilities. At the same time. plans and preparations were being made for the work of developing the building. The first phase, comprising the introduction of water and the formation of toilets, and the creation of said multi-purpose space commenced on 10th March 2026..
