02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
New Heights SCIO was set up to provide programmes of personal and social development through outdoor education, adventure activities and experiential learning. Its work builds skills, confidence and resilience in individuals facing disadvantage, with a particular focus on supporting people in recovery from addiction to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to their communities. Operating in partnership with Above Adventure in Kilmarnock, the charity runs a structured programme of physical and mental challenges including climbing, canoeing, bushcraft and abseiling. Through these shared experiences, participants develop self-confidence, coping skills and a renewed sense of purpose.

Constitutional objectives
To provide programmes of personal and social development for individuals of all ages, through participation in community and outdoor-based education, adventure activities, and experiential learning. These initiatives are designed to develop skills, capacities, and capabilities, enabling individuals to overcome disadvantage and improve their life prospects. To support individuals in recovery from addiction and empower participants to rebuild their lives and become responsible and contributing members of society and improve their conditions of life and overall well-being. To assist and encourage individuals, regardless of age, who face social and economic challenges. By fostering personal growth and resilience, to enable them to engage with society as mature, responsible individuals, furthering the interests of social welfare and inclusion
